Course Overview

Looking to start a career in scaffolding? The CPCCLSF2001 – Licence to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding basic level course provides the skills and knowledge required to work safely with modular or prefabricated scaffolding systems, including towers, birdcages, and cantilevers.

 

This nationally recognised training is the first step to becoming a licensed scaffolder in Western Australia. It’s a legal requirement for anyone building or dismantling scaffolding over four metres in height, and is essential for work on construction sites, shutdowns, and industrial projects.

 

Delivered face-to-face at our Belmont or Naval Base training facility, this practical, safety-focused course is assessed by a WorkSafe WA licensed Assessor. Upon successful completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for your Basic Scaffolding Licence (SB Class).

Course Details

This course aligns with the National Assessment Instrument (NAI) and meets licensing requirements under WorkSafe WA for basic scaffolding work.

 

Led by experienced trainers, this hands-on training combines classroom theory with real-world scaffold construction, focusing on safety, structural integrity, and compliance.

 

Key topics include:

 

Planning scaffolding work:
Read and interpret scaffold plans, site conditions, and WHS requirements.

Erecting and dismantling scaffolds:
Work with modular and prefabricated scaffold systems, including frames, braces, ledgers, transoms, and access platforms.

Scaffold safety and inspection:
Identify hazards, inspect scaffold components, and ensure stability during use.

Communication and coordination:
Collaborate with team members to manage safe erection and dismantling of scaffolds.

 

Participants must demonstrate practical competency and pass a written knowledge test to be assessed as competent.

 

Assessment is conducted by a WorkSafe WA licensed Assessor, in line with high-risk work licencing standards.

 

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment Requirement

To ensure prospective students have the necessary LLN skills to successfully undertake their chosen training, it is a mandatory requirement to complete an LLN assessment prior to booking confirmation.

Training Outcome

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment and a Notice of Assessment, which remains valid for 60 days. To obtain a Western Australian High Risk Work Licence, you must submit the following to WorkSafe WA:

 

• A copy of your Statement of Attainment
• A completed WorkSafe application
• The applicable WorkSafe fee

 

Please note: The course fee does not include the WorkSafe application fee of $115.

 

KITA offers a service to lodge your WorkSafe High Risk Work Licence application on your behalf for $115, which includes administration costs. (This fee is subject to change.)

Prerequisites & Course Requirements

Pre-requisites: Not required for training, however, participants wishing to work on a construction site must also have a valid White Card (CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry).

 

Course Requirements

  • Persons must be 18 years of age or older
  • Photo ID must be presented i.e. current driver licence or passport
  • Basic numeracy skills
  • Basic English language and literacy skills

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): To enter our workshop, participants are required to wear steel-capped boots, long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Hardhats can be provided if you cannot bring your own.

 

Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements: Participants must be able to read, write and understand English. Completion of the LLN assessment is required prior to booking confirmation.

 

Individuals holding a Student Visa are not eligible to enrol in or attend the course as KITA is not a registered CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students).
